Essay# 3 Intro

Why are you interested in athletic training?
My interest in athletic training came about when I stopped playing sports in high school and started my job in Florida; at the Walt Disney resort in 2006 as a performer. While I was there I sustained a few injuries. While receiving my treatments from the staff trainers, seeing the way they treated injuries and enjoying the way there treatment felt, the job peeked my interest. To know that there is someone that cared so much about me and my health really made an impact on me. That is what I would like to give back to my players.
What do I know about athletic training?
Athletic trainers are health care providers who specialize in preventing injuries for their athletes and coaches. They don’t just tape, provide water, or ice they do much more. Athletic trainers make sure that athletes are stretching properly also rehabilitating players after injuries. For this reason I am interested in becoming an athletic trainer.
What occupation am I interested in?
The athletic training field is the occupation that most interest me. I would like to work at a college or university or with a ball club. I want to provide a safe and productive environment for my athletes and staff to come and get the proper care that they need and deserve; the type of care my trainer showed me. When I graduate from Yavapai College I will be continuing my athletic training education at Northern Arizona University and would like to obtain a master’s degree the University of Southern California.

My Interviwe

I got the chance to speak with a person that’s not only my friend and mentor but someone that kept my body well when I work for Disney Land Khara Schnaible. Khara spoke to me about being an Athletic Trainer. The ends and outs; the good the bad and the ugly of being an ATC (Athletic Trainer). I’ve known and had the privilege to work with Khara at the Disney Land for over two years so I know what she is saying is not far from the truth she knows her stuff.
The first question that I asked her was if she felt that anyone in the sporting filled felt that athletic trainers were needed? Her answer was no. Because coaches know that a lot can happen and can go down on the on the filled and off. She also said that they were over looked and under appreciated. My second question to her why are athletic trainers overlooked? “When ATC came about they did not look at what it all would in tell, and what people would think of when they heard the name athletic training, and what they pictured. Which is a personal trainer or a fascicle trainer. This usually does not change until we start to work on them or they see what we really do. That’s why the NATA (Athletic Trainers’ Association) is looking in to changing the name to something more fitting”. People don’t relies that there is more to an ATC (Athletic Trainer) that meat’s thee eyes. As I started to ask my third question she was telling me what a athletic trainer was. An ATC is a health care professional provides athletes the proper care that they need prior to a game during a game, and practices. We are the ones who see every injury when they happens assess it and or treat it to see if you need to go to the hospital or see the Dr. the next day. The one thing that we can’t do is make diagnoses’. My fourth and fifth question‘s for Khara tie in to each other. How do you think about athletic training, and how does it make you feel? “I love it there’s not another way to say it. I adore what I do, it’s not just a job but a place where I can help people and make them feel good not just physically but mentally and emotionally. That’s what makes this job.
